Curacao Challenge day one
First day of the competition is over and it has been such a great day! I arrived at the event site at nine in the morning and it was full of kids getting ready for their heats already, so nice to see so many youngsters on the water, all having so much fun and competing with each other.
We are racing against each other in a group of twelve people, with one other girl in it and the rest of them are men. Because of this I’m also racing in the same heat as Taty Frans all the time, one of the best slalom guys in the world 🙂 And guess what..I kicked his ass!
Hahaha no joking…this was the overall scores after our first three races, and because with only these three scores you’re score goes down a lot with one over early result; what Taty had. So after another four races where he finished first place in all of them his ranking was first place overall again 😉
But seriously now..I’m very happy with my results of today! In my first heat I finished third place, and I was really surprised and happy with this. I had never used this equipment before and I have not done so much slalom sailing yet, especially not in strong winds (because the only times I went slalom sailing in Bonaire was when it was not windy enough for my biggest freestyle sail and often when this was the case my body was actually very happy with a little break of windsurfing). And for some of my friends who know I have never been very good in jibing..I actually made all my jibes today haha! (and even some very smooth ones ;)).
I love the feeling of racing.. it gives such an adrenaline rush! And it’s so much fun sailing against each other. Everyone here is so nice, and it’s great to see people from all ages sailing in the competition.
Also met a future freestyle champ! A young girl named Anne of only thirteen years old who can do some great freestyle tricks already. Lucky me already got on the photo with her for when she becomes famous one day 🙂
Tomorrow another day of slalom racing and the day after we will start with the freestyle competition. Hope the wind will stay this great. Keep you posted and now it’s time to relax 🙂
