Competitions 2019

I’m sitting in a little cafe in El Medano- Tenerife while writing this blog post, waiting for the wind to pick up. Tomorrow is the last day of the competition and we did not have any wind yet. It can always happen with a windsurf competition that there is no wind! Although it looks like competition is a lot of action, it’s often a lot of waiting for those little moments of action! And when you do have that little moment of action you want to be totally prepared, ready and fit for it, so all week long with everything you do this is in the back of your mind.

Always waiting and being ready!

So far this season we had very good wind during all my competitions. After completing the PWA Freestyle event in Fuerteventura we are done with the Freestyle season and I finished in fourth place in the PWA Freestyle ranking of 2019. Pretty stoked with this result! Of course I can’t deny that I was hoping for a podium finish, but I knew it would not be easy. I sailed a good final heat with good scoring against Oda in the heat for 3rd place, but she had a good heat too and it was just not enough! Both in Bonaire and Fuerteventura I felt I was sailing more consistent and strong than last year, so I am happy with my results and it’s just a matter of keep pushing myself

I am currently still number 1 in the IWT Wave Tour rankings of 2019 after winning the event in Japan and becoming 2nd in Oregon. With Peru and Maui on the calendar it will be a tough battle but I really hope I can hold my number 1 position!

First place in Omaezaki – Japan with the IWT Wave Tour

Here in Tenerife is the 2nd stop of the PWA Wave Tour. With two more events on the calendar ( Tenerife, Sylt & Maui) I will discard Pozo and have a full ranking in three Tours (PWA Freestyle, PWA Wave and IWT Wave). Pretty full on schedule, but I love all three different tours, the different disciplines and their different stops!

Freestyle in tropical and flat Bonaire
Waves in freezing cold and super windy Oregon

Let’s see what the last two days of Tenerife will bring and all the competitions yet to come! A huge thanks to my sponsors for making it possible to compete with the best gear and doing what I love most. Even more thanks to my family, friends and Berk for their unconditional support, love and help. See you on the water!
