Real Trip Makkum
Last weekend was the Real Trip again at Makkum, a big and famous windsurf event and competition in Holland. There was enough wind on Saturday to do a long distance race and it was so cool to race together with more than 200 windsurfers! There was not a lot of wind so I was using the 9.0 WARP and 129 liter FALCON with 44 cm fin. I had a good start and was sailing next to other women pro fleet competitor and Olympic sailor Lilian de Geus and we were right in front with the first men. Half way the first run I was taken over by Ester de Geus but I managed to claim third place. It was pretty uncomfortable sailing in one direction for so many kilometers but being surrounded by so many other competitors was just so much fun.
They were also running a SUP race before the wind picked up in the morning. The week before the event I had my first ever go on a race SUP board but I was being pushed to give it a try on Saturday. And I am very happy with that little push because I managed to win the race 🙂
I never expected the SUP race to be that much fun, but I enjoyed the thrill of the competition and to play a tactic game and I would like to do some more races in the near future!
In the evening the organization of the event organized a nice BBQ, followed up by a little party. It was so nice to catch up with a lot of windsurf friends that I had not seen for ages. Even got a chance to be the DJ of the party for a little while 😉
Sunday there was not enough wind for another race sadly enough, but with lots of sun, some wind and sup racing it was a great weekend!
